Impact of microbial inoculum storage on dark fermentative H2 production
نویسندگان
چکیده
Complex organic substrates represent an important and relevant feedstock for producing hydrogen by Dark Fermentation (DF). Usually, external microbial inoculum originated from various natural environments is added to seed the DF reactors. However, H2 yields are significantly impacted origin storage conditions as community composition can fluctuate. This study aims determine how type time of impact performances. Biochemical Hydrogen Potential tests were carried out using three (glucose, fraction municipal solid waste, food waste), inocula different origins, (freezing or freeze-drying) duration. As a result, production glucose with differently stored was (positively negatively) inoculum-origin-dependent. For complex substrates, not statistically fresh inocula, offering possibility store inoculum.

Microbial Cellulose: Fermentative Production and Applications
Bacterial cellulose, an exopolysaccharide produced by some bacteria, has unique structural and mechanical properties and is highly pure as compared to plant cellulose. This article presents a critical review of the available information on the bacterial cellulose with special emphasis on its fermentative production and applications. Information on the biosynthetic pathway of bacterial cellulose...
متن کاملPure-culture growth of fermentative bacteria, facilitated by H2 removal: bioenergetics and H2 production.
We used an H2-purging culture vessel to replace an H2-consuming syntrophic partner, allowing the growth of pure cultures of Syntrophothermus lipocalidus on butyrate and Aminobacterium colombiense on alanine. By decoupling the syntrophic association, it was possible to manipulate and monitor the single organism's growth environment and determine the change in Gibbs free energy yield (DeltaG) in ...
متن کاملA comprehensive and quantitative review of dark fermentative biohydrogen production
Biohydrogen production (BHP) can be achieved by direct or indirect biophotolysis, photo-fermentation and dark fermentation, whereof only the latter does not require the input of light energy. Our motivation to compile this review was to quantify and comprehensively report strains and process performance of dark fermentative BHP. This review summarizes the work done on pure and defined co-cultur...
متن کاملEnhanced photo-fermentative H2 production using Rhodobacter sphaeroides by ethanol addition and analysis of soluble microbial products
BACKGROUND Biological fermentation routes can provide an environmentally friendly way of producing H2 since they use renewable biomass as feedstock and proceed under ambient temperature and pressure. In particular, photo-fermentation has superior properties in terms of achieving high H2 yield through complete degradation of substrates. However, long-term H2 production data with stable performan...
متن کاملImpact of storage on dark chocolate: texture and polymorphic changes.
Chocolate storage is critical to final product quality. Inadequate storage, especially with temperature fluctuations, may lead to rearrangement of triglycerides that make up the bulk of the chocolate matrix; this rearrangement may lead to fat bloom. Bloom is the main cause of quality loss in the chocolate industry. The effect of storage conditions leading to bloom formation on texture and flavo...
